About the National Lacrosse League
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is the premier professional indoor lacrosse league in the world. Founded in 1986 (originally as the Eagle Pro Box Lacrosse League), the NLL has grown to 14 teams across the United States and Canada. The league plays box lacrosse, the fast-paced indoor version of the sport, in NHL and minor league hockey arenas from coast to coast.
Box lacrosse is played 5-on-5 plus goalies on a hockey rink-sized floor (without the ice). The smaller playing surface, 30-second shot clock, and enclosed walls create a faster, more physical game than outdoor field lacrosse. Goals are smaller, goalies wear more padding, and cross-checking is part of the game. It is a completely different experience from the field game.
Where to Watch NLL Games
In the United States, every NLL game streams live on ESPN+. Canadian fans can watch on TSN and TSN+ for national broadcasts, with some teams having local TV deals. The NLL Finals typically get expanded coverage across ESPN networks. For US fans, an ESPN+ subscription ($10.99/month) is all you need to watch every single NLL game.
NLL Teams
The NLL features 14 franchises split between the US and Canada. In the US: the Buffalo Bandits, Colorado Mammoth, Georgia Swarm, Las Vegas Desert Dogs, Philadelphia Wings, Rochester Knighthawks, and San Diego Seals. In Canada: the Calgary Roughnecks, Halifax Thunderbirds, Oshawa FireWolves, Ottawa Black Bears, Saskatchewan Rush, Toronto Rock, and Vancouver Warriors. The Buffalo Bandits are the league's most storied franchise with the most championships and largest fan base.
NLL Season and Playoffs
The NLL regular season runs from late November through mid-April. Each team plays an 18-game schedule, with most games on Friday and Saturday nights. The top teams in each division qualify for the playoffs, which run through May and into June. The NLL Cup Finals determine the league champion. The regular season overlaps with the NCAA college lacrosse season (February through May), so lacrosse fans can watch both box and field lacrosse on the same weekend.
